Churches went to 501 3c in the 90’s under Clinton. It was an IRS rule to get churches to stop talking politics. You can’t talk politics if you are non-profit. That was the reason behind it, that and getting everyones names that goes to church. Before that you couldn’t claim your church donations as tax deductable. Now you get to file wiith the IRS how much you give to your church.
