FINDING BOOKS THAT PROMOTE BIBLICAL WOMANHOOD

Most TV shows, movies, and books exalt feminism and the feminist agenda. My husband told me today that on Fox News, there were four women extolling the “virture” of being able to do it all. One had just had a baby, and they were all congratulating her on being back to work full time. See, women can do it all, they claimed. One man tried to convince them otherwise, but I am sure the women saw him as a misogynist.

I hurt by back last week. I hurt it very badly, like crawling-to-the-toilet badly. I laid on ice packs for days and tried not to move too much. Every time I thought it was getting better, I would bend over slightly and it would go into spasms again. Just turning over in bed was a huge ordeal!

This happened while we were in our cabin in Wisconsin. My dad built it 35 years ago, and we love to go there in the summer. We have barely any cell service in the cabin, so I couldn’t just play on my phone for those days I was in bed. I happened to have the series by Janette Oke “Love Comes Softly.” It has eight books, so this kept me very occupied.

Janette Oke is a godly woman who believes in biblical womanhood. Buy these books for your teenage daughters and have them read them. The men are referred to as the head of their homes. The wives love their husbands deeply and submit to their leadership. They love having babies and being home to raise them. They love homemaking: cooking, cleaning, baking, sewing, canning, gardening, and all it took to run a home back then.

When the women would have wrong thoughts, they would eventually renew their minds with truth. A lot of Scripture is taught throughout the book, but biblical womanhood is the main theme.

The daughters are taught all of the ways of homemaking. As soon as they’re 18 or so, they get married and are well-prepared for marriage, raising children, and homemaking. They were disappointed if they didn’t have babies right away. There wasn’t any hint of feminism in these books. They are so refreshing!

It’s good to have your daughters read books like these! Let them learn the joys of biblical womanhood. They are bombarded with the feminist agenda in our culture. Besides having them read these books and teaching them about it, make sure you model it to them too. This will be the greatest influence in their lives.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, thing on these things.
Philippians 4:8
